Overview
A modern phone camera can create useful PDF scans when you follow a few simple steps. Good scanning is about more than pressing the camera button: lighting, page position, focus, cropping, and review all affect the result.
Why this matters
Clear PDF scans are important for applications, admissions, invoices, identity documents, handwritten notes, and other files that another person must be able to read easily.
Set up the paper and lighting
Place the document on a flat, contrasting surface. Use bright, even lighting and avoid shadows from your hands or phone. Do not scan a folded, curved, or wet page if you can avoid it.
Keep the phone directly above the paper. A tilted angle can make text look uneven and may cause corners to be cut off.
Capture and review every page
Take the photo only after the text looks sharp. Review it immediately and retake the picture if it is blurry, dark, reflective, or missing an edge.
For multiple pages, scan them in order and keep the same orientation. This makes the final PDF easier to read.
Create and check the PDF
Use a scanner feature in your phone or convert the clear images into one PDF. Open the final PDF and inspect it page by page before sharing.
If the PDF is too large for an upload portal, compress a copy after preserving the original high-quality version.

Important note
Always review downloaded documents before submitting, printing, signing, or sharing important files. Complex formatting, scanned pages, images, fonts, or document protection can affect processing results.
