Overview
A PDF that does not open on Android can be frustrating, especially when it contains an assignment, admit card, bank statement, ticket, or important form. In many cases the PDF itself is fine; the issue may be an incomplete download, an outdated reader app, low storage, or a file that was renamed incorrectly.

Knowing the cause helps you avoid repeatedly downloading the same broken file and makes sure important documents remain available when you need them.
Check whether the download finished
An interrupted download is one of the most common reasons a PDF will not open. Open your phone Downloads folder and check the file size. If the file size is 0 KB or much smaller than expected, delete it and download it again using a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
Avoid opening a document while it is still downloading. Wait until the browser shows that the download is complete.
Use a reliable PDF reader
Android phones can open many PDFs directly in Chrome, Google Drive, Files by Google, or a dedicated PDF reader. If one app fails, try opening the same file in another trusted reader.
Keep your browser and PDF-reading app updated. Old versions can have trouble with newer PDF features, password protection, large files, or digital signatures.
Check phone storage and permissions
Very low phone storage can prevent downloads from completing correctly. Free some storage space, then download the file again.
Also check whether the browser or file manager has permission to access downloads. If you cannot locate the document, use the Files or Downloads app and search by the PDF name.
The PDF may be password-protected or damaged
Some PDFs require a password before they can open. If the file was sent by a bank, school, company, or government portal, look for password instructions in the email or SMS.
If the file does not open on any device after a fresh download, it may be damaged at the source. Ask the sender to upload or send a new copy.
